This 6-nights pilgrimage to San Giovanni Rotondo, Salerno and Pompeii in Italy, takes pilgrims on a spiritual journey following in the footsteps of St Philomena and Saint Padre Pio.

During your first day of this pilgrimage you will enjoy a guided tour of Salerno’s old city and have Mass in St Philomena before travelling to the ancient city of Pompeii in southern Italy. We will visit and have Mass at the shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary and visit the Benedictine Abbey of Cava dei Tirreni, a national monument and very important religious site since the Middle Ages.

We will then travel San Giovanni Rotondo, in Puglia, where we will learn about the life and work of Padre Pio. We will visit the places where he lived, his resting place, and other important religious sites related to his life work such as the Old Church of Santa Maria della Grazie where he received the stigmata in 1918. One of the stops will be Pietrelcina, the birthplace of Saint Pio.

Our last part of the pilgrimage will take you on a journey to the town of San Marco in Lamis, visiting as well St. Matthew’s monastery, Monte Sant Angelo and the shrine in the cave where the Archangel Michael appeared in the fifth century.

DAY 1: ARRIVE SALERNO

Early departure from Dublin airport on the 06:20 – 10.35 flight to Naples. On arrival, we will be met by our Joe Walsh tours pilgrimage coordinator and transferred by private coach to our Hotel in Salerno. Time to check in and have lunch at the Scapolatiello Hotel, where we will stay for the next two nights with breakfast and dinner included each day. After lunch we will visit and have mass in St Philomena. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

DAY 2: POMPEI & CAVA DEI TIRRENI

After breakfast and just a short journey from Salerno today we will have a fully guided visit of the ancient city of Pompeii (entrance fee not included), and we will have Mass in the shrine of our Lady the Rosary. Time for lunch. In the afternoon we will visit the Benedictine Abbey in Cava dei Tirreni.
Back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
    
DAY 3: SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO & PIETRELCINA

Today after breakfast and check out we will make our way to San Giovanni Rotondo. Before arriving to the city of Padre Pio we will stop and visit the famous Pietrelcina, the birthplace of Saint Pio, and have a walking tour of Piana Romana.
We visit St. Pio’s family home and the church of St. Anna where Padre Pio was baptised and received his First Holy Communion. Time to check in to the Parco delle Rose Hotel where we will be staying for the next 4 nights on a Full Board basis.

DAY 4: SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO & PADRE PIO

Today we will spend the full day in San Giovanni. After the morning Mass, visit to the English office where we hear about the extraordinary life of Padre Pio and the Capuchin Friary, the cell where Saint Pio lived and died, the crucifix before which he received the stigmata. One of the most beautiful shrines to see in San Giovanni Rotondo, the Old Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie or Our Lady of Grace, a small church where Padre Pio lived, heard confessions, prayed, and received the stigmata in 1918. Time to go back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 5: SAN MARCO IN LAMIS, ST MATTHEW'S MONASTERY & MONTE SANT ANGELO

This morning we travel to the nearby town of San Marco in Lamis and visit St. Matthew’s monastery.  After lunch we then continue to Monte Sant Angelo the shrine in the cave where the Archangel Michael appeared in the fifth century. A long list of Saints and Popes have visited this cave to pray to the Archangel, among them St. Francis of Assisi, St Pio and St John Paul II. Mass and return to hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 6: SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO

This is our last day in San Giovanni. After breakfast we will visit the Station of the Cross, we will have mass and free rest of the day.
    
DAY 7: FLIGHT BACK HOME

Today we will have an early departure. Breakfast will be at 6.30am. Time to check out and make our way back to Naples for our flight home.
