World Youth Day
World Youth Day WYD is a worldwide celebration of young Catholics with the Pope and international pilgrimage which takes place in a different country every three years since it was first established by Pope John Paul II in 1986.
World Youth Day was celebrated for the first time in Lisbon, Portugal, in August 2023 and many groups travelled with Joe Walsh Tours to the event.
“Mary arose and went with haste” (Lk 1:39) was the quote chosen by Pope Francis as the motto of the last World Youth Day.
Young people from all over the world gathered in Lisbon in August 2023 to share moments of prayer and leisure together over a week with the blessing of Pope Francis.
The Pope joined the celebrations, taking part in the welcoming and opening ceremony, the Way of the Cross, the vigil and the event’s closing mass.
