Pilgrims to Lourdes will enjoy learning about this unique sanctuary and the story of St Bernadette, as well as being able to admire some of the wonderful landscapes of this beautiful region, by the Pyrenees Mountains, in Southern France.
It is in this lovely setting where Our Lady of Lourdes appeared to 14-year old Bernadette Soubirous back in 1858, instructing her to dig in the ground until a puddle of water appeared; this puddle would become a spring. Today, Lourdes is a place of healing and faith for pilgrims from all over the world, who travel to be healed at the spring, and therefore a great destination for Religious Studies groups.
In addition to exploring Lourdes Grotto, the Baths, Basilicas and Stations of the Cross; pilgrims can visit places associated with the life of Saint Bernadette and take part in the impressive torchlight procession that takes place every evening at the sanctuary.
Please note that our travel experts can adapt the Pilgrimage to Lourdes tour to your group’s needs and requirements, including longer stays and additional activities such as day trips to nearby Cirque de Garvanie for instance or participating in volunteer work at the shrine.
