On this short break in Santiago de Compostela, you will take in the festivities of the annual Feast of St James, and get to explore and know this wonderful historic city.

The city of Santiago knows how to celebrate with this fantastic event! In the two weeks leading up to the day, there are exhibitions, concerts, drama productions and street entertainment. Closer to the day, there is something on almost every night in the Old Town’s main squares. On the evening of 24th July, in the Praza do Obradoiro, are the Fogos do Apóstol – an incredible display of pyrotechnics that sees the side of the cathedral dramatically illuminated at midnight. The feast day itself includes many official celebrations and processions, the most important of which is an official Mass attended by representatives of the Galician government and often by members of the Spanish Royal family.

The Botafumeiro will be swung during mass on the 25th July. Only 11 days of each year the Botafumeiro is swung for sure, St James Day being one of them.

DAY 1: Sunday 23rd July 2023

Make your way to Dublin airport for your flight to Santiago de Compostela. Transfer to your hotel and enjoy dinner with your group and rep.

DAY 2: Monday 24th July 2023

Today we will take you to Monte do Gozo, just outside Santiago to walk the last few kms of the Camino Frances. You will also have time to explore Santiago at your own pace, relaxing in the numerous coffee shops and parks, or strolling the beautiful cobbled streets.

DAY 3: Tuesday 25th July 2023

Today, the Feast of Saint James, Dia de Santiago as well as Galicia’s National Day so the streets of Santiago de Compostela come alive once more with locals and visitors.
The city is full of people watching the displays of different carnival groups, papier-mâché cabezudos and many Galician pipers. The dancing, music, eating and celebrating continues well into the next morning! Don’t forget to try some oysters or scallops, as Galicians believe that eating these on July 25th will ensure that the following year is full of wealth and health. The feast day itself also includes many official celebrations, the most important of which is an official Mass which is attended by representatives of the Galician government and often by members of the Spanish Royal family.

DAY 4: Wednesday 26th July 2023

On your last morning, you will have some more time to soak up the atmosphere of the city, as the return flight to Dublin is expected to be around 5pm, so the group will be transferred to the airport around 2pm.
