The Divine Mercy Sanctuary located in Krakow’s Lagiewniki district is the final resting place of Saint Faustina and a vast shrine dedicated to the Mercy of God. It became one of the most popular pilgrimage places in Poland after Sister Faustina was beatified and canonised in the year 2000.
With the increasing number of pilgrims, the shrine, which Pope John Paul II referred to as “The Capital of the Divine Mercy devotion”, was redeveloped, and a modern new basilica, consecrated in 2002, rose above the site of the original 19th century convent resided by the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy. The shrine has been visited by two Popes and continues to attract millions of pilgrims every year.
